"Chaos at Houston Airports: Shutdown Triggers Major Travel Crisis"

The ongoing federal government shutdown continues to impact airport travelers in Houston, with long security lines causing major delays. TSA staffing shortages have resulted in extended wait times at both George Bush Intercontinental Airport cIAHc and William P. Hobby Airport cHOUc. Travelers should brace themselves for delays as TSA agents, working without pay, have been calling out, leading to a limited number of screening lanes being open.

At IAH, security wait times could exceed three hours, with only TSA checkpoints at Terminals A and E currently operational. United Airlines passengers are advised to check their luggage at Terminal C and then proceed to Terminal E for security screening. Meanwhile, at Hobby Airport, TSA wait times are also stretching beyond one hour, with fewer screening lanes available.

Passengers have been expressing frustration over the prolonged wait times, with some missing their flights altogether. Reports and images have surfaced showing long TSA lines at Terminal E, extending outside the buildings and down the sidewalk. Despite efforts by airport authorities to expedite the screening process, the situation remains challenging.

In response to the escalating delays, the Houston Airport System issued a statement indicating that they are working diligently to support TSA operations and ensure the safety and efficiency of passenger movement. Travelers are strongly advised to arrive at least three hours early for international flights and two hours early for domestic departures until the shutdown situation is resolved.

While security wait times are gradually improving, with estimated wait times at IAH reduced to around 60 to 75 minutes on Tuesday, travelers are being urged to remain vigilant and arrive early. Wait times at Hobby Airport are also expected to be shorter on Tuesday compared to the previous days.
